Housing Allowance (Huurtoeslag)
Students aged 18+ with low income and qualifying rent may be eligible for housing allowance. Visit the Belastingdienst website to apply using your DigiD.
- Must be 18+ years old
- Rent must not exceed €454.47 (18–23 yrs) or €900.07 (23+ yrs)
- Income and assets must fall below the threshold
Health Insurance Allowance (Zorgtoeslag)
Working students are required to have Dutch health insurance and may be eligible for the health allowance (zorgtoeslag).
- Apply at toeslagen.nl with your DigiD
- Annual income must be under €39,719 (2025)
- Requires valid Dutch insurance first
DUO Student Finance
EU students who work at least 32 hours/month in the Netherlands can apply for:
- Basic Grant
- Supplementary Grant
- Living Loan & Travel Product (free weekend/weekday travel)
Applications require documents like work contracts, payslips, and parental income declaration (for Supplementary Grant).
Unemployment Benefits (WW-uitkering)
Available for part-time employees who lose their jobs. You must:
- Be insured via employment
- Have worked 26 of the last 36 weeks
- Be actively available for work
Applications are processed online via UWV.
